When your surgery is completed you will be taken to Recovery, where a nurse will apply monitors, check dressings, check the IV site, monitor vital signs and administer pain medication as needed.
You will experience some discomfort after surgery; it is a personal experience. The amount and type of discomfort varies, based on your perception of pain and your procedure. Your pain management will be individualized to meet your needs.
Your family member will be able to be with you as soon as your vital signs are stable and you are awake. As soon as you feel like drinking, the nurse will offer you a soft drink or juice.
When you are ready to go home, the nurse will go over your individualized discharge instructions. It is important that you and your family member understand the directions for your care after your surgery. The next working day after surgery, a nurse will call you to check on your progress.
If you experience unexpected severe pain, heavy bleeding, or a temperature greater than 101°, call your surgeon or immediately go to the emergency room. You will not be able to drive or return to work on the day of your surgery.
Overnight Stay
For more extensive procedures, your physician may want you to stay the night in our Center. Your surgeon arranges this in advance. We offer private, comfortable suites for your extended recovery.
