Cosmetic (or Plastic or Reconstructive) Surgery is defined as: "Surgery dealing with restoration of wounded, disfigured, or unsightly parts of the body." It includes cosmetic surgery or cosmetic corrections not necessarily related to the physical health or safety of the patient.

The word "plastic" in it's classic sense means "giving form of fashion to matter."
