Urology

Urology

Urology is defined as the branch of medicine and surgery concerned with the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and abnormalities of the urogenital tract of the male and the urinary tract of the female.

The practice of urology involves, aside from routine diagnostic and surgical work, special knowledge and skills in the treatment of pediatric urologic problems, infections of the urinary tract, infertility and sterility, male sexual problems, testicular and prostate cancer. Urological procedures perfomed at the Evansville Surgery Center include:

Vasectomy
Vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure to cut and close off the tubes (vas deferens) that deliver sperm from the testes; it is usually performed as a means of contraception.

Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a test that allows the doctor to look at the interior lining of the bladder and urethra.

Bladder Biopsy
Bladder biopsy involves the removal of a small piece of tissue from the bladder for examination. It is often performed as a part of a cystoscopy.

Micro Vasovasostomy
This is surgical procedure that attempts to restore the function of the vas deferens after a vasectomy.

Testicular Biopsy
A testicular biopsy is a test in which a small sample of tissue is taken from one or both testicles and examined under a microscope to evaluate a man's ability to father a child.

Testicular Implants
Testicular implants may be desired by men whose testicles did not descend at puberty or who may have had removal of one or both testicles.

Circumcision
Circumcision is the removal of a simple fold of skin (the 'foreskin' or 'prepuce') that covers the head (glans) of the un-erect penis.

Hypospadias Repair
Hypospadias repair is surgery to correct a birth defect in boys called hypospadias. This is a condition in which the urethra does not properly exit the penis at the tip.
